The Best Homemade Cinnamon Rolls
Ok, I know it sounds ambitious to make homemade cinnamon rolls but if you do, you will be left with a feeling of accomplishment, not to mention the WOW factor when finished! My mom always makes her cinnamon rolls from scratch. I can specifically remember how our house smelled when she made them. It is one of her signature dishes that once you try it you don’t forget it! I hope you give this one a try, it’s really not that difficult and the result is so worth it!
Ingredients:
The Dough
3 cups all purpose flour
1 cup warm milk
1 tablespoon instant dry yeast
2 tablespoons white granulated sugar
1 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons salted butter softened
1 large egg
The Filling
1/2 cup salted butter melted
1 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
The Glaze
4 ounces cream cheese softened
1/4 cup salted butter softened
1 to 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 to 2 tablespoons milk
Now let’s make it:
Combine warm milk, yeast, sugar, salt, butter, and eggs in your mixer. Add in flour. Using a dough hook, mix on low. You might have to add additional flour. Keep adding a little flour until it pulls away from the bowl and is not sticky.
Transfer the dough to a lightly greased bowl and cover with a towel for about 1 hour.
Lightly grease a 9x13 baking sheet (I use butter) .
Punch down the dough and roll into a 12inch by 18inch rectangle on a floured surface.
Brush the dough with 1/2 cup melted butter, sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon.
Roll up tightly lengthwise so you have one long roll. Use a sharp knife to cut the dough into 12 one-inch slices.
Place the slices onto the greased pan. Cover and let rise 30 to 45 minutes.
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Bake the rolls for about 14 minutes, until lightly browned on the top.
While the cinnamon rolls are baking, make the cream cheese glaze by using a mixer or whisk. Whip together cream cheese and butter in a bowl until light and fluffy. Add powdered sugar and vanilla extract. Add enough milk to achieve a drizzle-like consistency.
Frost the rolls while still warm. Serve them hot! Enjoy!
