Homemade Doughnuts
If you want a melt in your mouth donut recipe, put this one on your list. Ever have a hard time waking up your kids on the weekends? Put these in your oven and if the smell does not wake them, simply yell hot donuts and watch what happens next! I like to give the option of chocolate sauce (recipe found on my churro blog post), vanilla glaze, or plain and simple. You can’t make a wrong decision. Make your own donuts and I promise you will get two thumbs up!
Ingredients:
Baking spray with flour, such as Baker’s Joy to grease the donut pan
2 cups all-purpose flour
1½ cups sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon kosher salt
1 extra-large egg, lightly beaten
1¼ cups cream or whole milk
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
chocolate chips if you want to sprinkle on top before baking
Optional toppings:
Vanilla Glaze:
Ingredients:
1 Cup Powdered Sugar
2-3 Tablespoons Whole milk or Cream
1/2 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
Stir all of the above until there are no lumps, that’s it!
Chocolate Sauce: Recipe on Churros Post
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Spray 2 doughnut pans
Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt in a large bowl. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg, milk or cream, melted butter, and vanilla. Stir the wet mixture into the dry ingredients until just combined.
Spoon the batter into the baking pans, filling each one a little more than three-quarters full. If you overfill, the bottoms will look more like muffins but still taste great.
Bake for 17 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow to cool for 5 minutes, then tap the doughnuts out onto a pan.
I love donut pans, I also use them for banana bread. If you don’t have one here’s my fave:
